When My Friend Was Sexually Assaulted
She sat down with the boy’s parents over ceramic cups of coffee
And held her hands together like two swords before battle
And I was so proud of her

Grinning as silver dollars leapt from their tongues,
Laughing, “Can we push this under the rug?”
And I was still so proud of her.
