Stargazer

I didn’t realize I saw them as gods
Chiseled perfection stepping on clouds
Their platforms raised on the backs of crowding worshippers

I didn’t realize I saw them as gods
’Til they fell
At least—
I don’t think I learned to fly

Maybe
They’ll forget the path to the sky
And leave those marble sculptures in the past
as they find
With their feet on the ground
Me
crawling among the worshippers

Or maybe
I still see them as gods
As I lie with my neck
Against the asphalt
