I’m Auden Yurman, and I’m 16 years old and a junior in high school. I am originally from Rochester, New York, and I moved to State College, Pennsylvania seven years ago. At school, I work as the photography manager for my yearbook and newspaper, as well as helping out with tech for our school shows. Both of my parents are journalists, so I’ve always had a love for writing and photography. Photography is a pretty influential part of my life, especially because some of my love for photos comes from my relationship with my dad, who taught me everything I know about taking pictures. It’s also a good way for me to express myself and connect with the people and world around me. In addition, I’m passionate about politics and especially about youth involvement in politics. I’ve organized two walkouts at my school, the more recent one being part of the National School Walkout movement for gun control. In the future I want to travel and possibly go into politics.
I’m not a very religious person in my daily life, but I’m proud of my Jewish identity, heritage, and community. There are not many Jewish people in my town, so I’m very excited to be part of the jGirls+ community and meet other girls who understand this part of my identity and have similar interests and passions.
