My name is Caroline Koppel, and I am a senior at Metairie Park Country Day School in Metairie, Louisiana. I live with my mom, dad, older brother, and two cats. I am captain of the tennis team and play viola in my school’s orchestra. I love balancing my passion for math and science with creative outlets, such as photography and ceramics. Photography allows me to connect with the space around me and see the most mundane aspects of the world from a heightened perspective.
I also serve as the president of my school’s Green Club, where I started an annual textile recycling drive and an annual used-eyewear recycling drive. In addition, last year we raised money to plant trees in Australia, following the devastating fires. Serving as a mentor to younger students inspires me. I work on Sundays as a teacher’s assistant at my synagogue’s religious school and as a camp counselor at Electric Girls, an organization dedicated to increasing female representation in STEM fields. I also started a book club for fourth- to sixth-graders where I hope to share my love for reading!
