Hi! My name is Scarlett, and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and I’m a member of the class of 2023 at Community High School. Above all, I love to write. I have been very involved in my school’s literary magazine, The Communicator, since I started high school. This past year, I was the activism columnist. I published new columns on our website every week, where I wrote on subjects of national political importance from a teen perspective, such as the 2020 election and the BLM movement. This year, I am the web editor-in-chief, and I work on designing our website and organizing the flow of content we publish. I have won 20 national and state writing awards, including first-place feature columnist and first place informational feature, statewide. Last year, I had the chance to work on a podcast with Michigan Radio. It’s called Kids These Days, and it focused on topics like racism and identity through the eyes of teens. I was also featured on an episode of Stateside by Michigan Radio with my friend Cate.
I love to dance. I have been dancing since I was three years old, and I take ballet and lyrical classes every day. I love performing and am hopeful we will get to put on our regularly scheduled shows again this year. I also love to play board games. During the pandemic, my family decided to start reviewing every board game we played together. Since March 2020, we have played and reviewed over 130 games; we publish our reviews on our website, and keep it updated frequently. I am always looking for ways to connect with the Jewish community around me. I am a member of BBYO, and I attend Camp Interlaken JCC every summer.
